What did they do wrong?
- The student first distributed 6m to 2m, but did not distribute to 5, and left it as positive five.
- The student also only distributed the negative to 2m.
- Then he added -12m and -4m to be -16m.
What they should have done instead? (shown in picture)
- They should have first distributed the negative to both of the numbers.
- They should have also combine like terms and the cancel the 6m, and the only number that should be left is -5.
